When considering any medicine you should be as informed as possible about side effects. Bioidentical hormone therapy, for example, has potential side effects that include but are not limited to: increased aggressiveness, acne, irritability, breast tenderness, spotting, bleeding, cramping and bloating, and itching or redness at the injection or insertion site.
Unfortunately there are also misleading hormone products on the market, including counterfeit "medicines", that could cause headaches, tender breasts, weight gain, loss of libido, mood swings, depression, nausea and water retention. Some of these side effects would be dangerous if not carefully monitored.
For this reason we recommend seeing a Board Certified Gynecologist for your hormone replacement therapy. Physicians treat the whole patient, and do not just push hormone products for profit. Often time pop up hormone shops (soon to be one on every corner) do not employ gynecologists. Frequently their providers are midlevels who have attended a weekend course to become trained. That is not who you want caring for you, we don't think. IF there are problems with your hormone treatment, for example, abnormal bleeding: providers at these locations cannot perform biopsies, ultrasound or surgery. We wholeheartedly believe that you deserve the best, safest menopause solutions. We urge you to choose your healthcare provider carefully when it comes to hormone replacement therapy.
