I’m wearing mine. Are you? The FDA recently approved the drug Osphena, which helps with unwanted physical changes DOWN THERE caused by menopause. As vaginal tissue becomes drier, sex becomes less than fun - even painful. Definitely not fun for any woman, especially those married to the man armed with the little blue pill! And speaking of the "little blue pill"... soon you may be able to arm yourselves with "the little pink pill" - otherwise known as Filbanserin. Recently an advisory panel of the FDA has recommended the drug for approval, marking the first ever treatment for the most common form of female sexual dysfunction. This is big, Ladies! Now premenopausal women affected by Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) may be treated medically. But there are other ways we can protect our sex drive and preserve our libido - even without FDA approval. For example, edible aphrodisiacs are proven to aid in sexual function. Red wine contains high levels of polyphenols which help blood vessels widen, increasing blood flow to “THOSE” areas. Oysters are loaded with zinc, which helps your body make the testosterone it needs to function properly. Tryptophan in chocolate releases serotonin, a feel-good chemical. Chili peppers contain capsaicin, which kickstarts the release of endorphins to the brain, giving you more feel-good fuel. But fuel needs a spark doesn’t it? Science helps us sort the sexual fire starters from the fire extinguishers, so to speak…

Fire Starters

  • The arousal that follows an adrenaline rush? It's a thing - proven by science. Spontaneous, unexpected touching? In these situations the body releases oxytocin and other neurotransmitters facilitating sexual excitement.
  • Strong mind-body connection. Knowing your body leads to harmonious sexuality. Yoga helps with this mind-body awareness, but any kind of aerobic activity can get your blood flowing, which helps protect your sex drive from the inside out.
  • Weight loss. Losing just a few pounds can help release your inner sexual goddess. It doesn’t take much weight loss to feel more energetic and alive.

Fire Extinguishers

  • Lack of body confidence. Feeling short, fat, or ugly? Right. Who doesn't at times? Know that there’s NO NEED to look “perfect” or to have any particular shape in order to have fantastic sex. Not a requirement!
